Extravagance in Dawah

Invite to God Team

Nowadays, in the name of doing Dawah, people spend huge amounts of money in set decoration. When we say to them that this is Israaf (extravagance), they refute us by giving an excuse that, to sell a soap/any product it requires good packing and presentation and Islam is very precious and we need to convey this with good packaging and presentation. Is this correct? Please answer in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

Extravagance in DawahIslam is in itself very good. The teachings of Islam are very attractive; the concept of Tawheed (oneness of God) itself is very attractive that it will spread and reach out to the world on its own. It does not require any extra beautification and there is no need to have stage, decoration by spending millions. Nowadays, in the name of decoration and presentation Daees indulge in extravagance. Allah says

But squander not (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. And verily spendthrifts are brothers of Shayateen

[17:26, 27].

Islam spreads when people see our character, actions and by good lectures and speeches. By spending millions, you may get some benefit but Islam by itself is beautiful, its teachings are beautiful and it does not require any additional beautification. All we need to do is just spread the message of Islam according to Quran and Sunnah and we will insha Allah see results. Islam is spreading fast in jails where even proper food and shelter is a big question; then where do we get this idea of decorating stages? Hence to spend such huge amounts of money in the name of presentation and decoration is surely extravagance.
